Anonymous asked: Why do you like volleyball?
Because it’s a fun sport that doesn’t require running long distance!

Go Hawkeyes!!!
On Oct 8th I’m going to go see the Iowa Hawkeyes play volleyball! It’s supposed to be one of the biggest events of the year for them! Can’t wait!

“I’m gonna need to get another part time job to pay for your volleyball binge”

Our coach wants us to dress for success! But that can get a bit pricy….
I’m gonna have to get another part time job to pay for your volleyball binge ~Mom
Well, maybe! To play we must have:
- Uniform
- matching shorts
- black crew socks
- black knee pads
We didn’t know I needed black knee pads so we bought white and were told I NEED black knee pads. $6 for the white knee pads and $8 for the Black. $10 for the crew sock and $30 for playing + uniform
That’s $50! I don’t you about you, but we don’t just have that kind of money laying around!

“the other guys”
August 30th 6:30 p.m.
I threw up at practice yesterday so I wasn’t planning on playing tonight, but I went to go support me team. By this time, I had only a runny nose and a strong cough. But, I knew I was able to play and play well. So when coach didn’t start with me, I was offened. I always have started. It wasn’t till I had a cough attack that I realized that I was indeed still sick and that it maybe was better for me to sit out. 1st match Us: 9 Them: 25
I was disipointed but still cheered. Hey, why bring my team down? But by the end of the 2nd match with Us: 11 Them: 25 I could barely sit still. I clapped out of pure frustration.
3rd match, coach put me in with what I call “the other guys” I refer to certain “groups” on my team as “Starters” The girls who start and play much more than everyone else and “the other guys” the girls who honestly shouldn’t play volleyball. The 3rd match seems to be the match when coach puts in girls who probably will never be starters. So I was almost offened when I i was put with “the other guys” but why argue with the coach when you already threw up at her practice? So, “Whatever” I thought ” Atleast I get to play”
I have never been more embarressed in my life. Well, it seemed like it at that moment. The girls on my team were hitting balls off the walls, the ceiling, the crowd. Serves into the net, bumps into the net, girls into the net. Honestly, I was doing more coaching than J.L. was. “Rotate, move forward, it’s their ball” were commonly used phrases of mine.
Not to be cocky, because in volleyball theirs nothing I hate more than girls who don’t know what their doing and the “Cocky ones” (I guess their are starters, the other guys and the cocky ones.) But if it wasn’t for me, I don’t think we would have lasted or even scored a point. I tried hard almost provoking a coughing attack. The girls would waste 3 or more minutes saying “Good Job!” to the girl who’s serve almost hit the offcial. I am a team player, but I’m not going to run over and give someone a hug for failure. That’s not me.
Every time someone missed the ball or the other teamed replaced again. (no lie, they got replacments every 5 minutes, it was so irritating!)I would want to say “Frik” but that was not allowed to I just rolled my eyes.
That was bad.

Wow, great 1st impression…
August 29th 7:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.
My first practice. There were 2 before, but no one bothered to call me, “Oh, well” I think. I won “All around” award last season and even though everyone needs practice, I felt confident that I would be fine for the game the next day.
My new coach, we will call her… J.L. , is a new college graduate and the gym teacher for CVC.
We did stretches and practiced bumping back and fourth. Even though we practice with the 5/6 graders, we worked on tips and spikes. Then serving and afterward were going to get our uniforms. The other girls wanted to wear spandex, but I knew my mom wouldn’t approve of it so when they asked my opioion I simply stated. “I like gym shorts.”
I walked up the stairs to get my uniform, when suddenly I fely a huge cramp in my stomache and had been recovering from the flu all week and had to get to the bathroom… NOW!
I ran down to the bathroom, hopeing no one else was in there, too bad some girls were trying on their new unifroms when I couldn’t hold it in any longer… *BLEH!!!* I threw up in to the trash can.
Megan saw me and said “OMYGOSH! Emma! Are you O.K.???????” by that time I was in the locked stall puking my heart out. I finally replied. “Yep, just dandy” she ran and got J.L. and “accidentaly” annouced my issue to everyone.
She ran in and said “Emma, girlfriend?! Are you O.K.?” I replied “Yeah…” and then, because I could sense she was uncomfortable with giving soothing words to me while I threw up..she left.
I finally came out of the stall. “Emma, I hope you feel better! This really sucks! I hope your O.k.” Megan was truly concerned, I thought.
I left the bathroom after washing up and all the girls stopped talking. Most of the 5th graders gave me a funny look. I could have died right there.
I realized I had never gotten my uniform and then S.H. came running towards me and handed me my uniform. “She has no idea that I just puked, does she?” I asked myself.
I told coach that I would try to make it to the next game and she nodded.
Wow, great 1st impression…
